Today’s Live Event Experience: 5 Key Takeaways

Today’s Live Event Experience 5 Key Takeaways

Having today worked as part of a wonderful team to deliver a major corporate event in London, here are my five key takeaways!

  1. Communication is key: From making sure event marshalls are fully briefed to having your radios tested and group chats in sync, communication keeps everything running and means that last minute changes are known to all!
  2. Support those around you: Whilst of course client outcomes will be the main consideration with a high-profile corporate communications event, it doesn’t cost much to lend a hand to those who might need it in whichever area of operations – from logistics to AV and beyond. This support system starts during pre-production, often many months before the live day. Everyone’s contribution is key to creating an unforgettable experience.
  3. Let the preparation talk: The preparation that has gone into the event enables you (to an extent!) to relax into proceedings and enjoy the day. All the prior preparation – from rehearsals to contingency plans, will give you peace of mind that the day will unfold like clock-work. Today I saw all manner of contingencies in place meaning we could focus on the here-and-now.
  4. Pivot: Events always require a degree of re-thinking even on the live day. From last minute changes to rehearsal schedules, or changes to catering needs, being able to cope with change is key. You can never be too comfortable in these situations!
  5. There is always something to learn: Every event – no matter how familiar the client or event type, there is an opportunity to learn. The post-event review, the budget reconciliation process and study of delegate feedback means that next time can be even better.
